Portales and Roosevelt County Quality of Life: Schools

Roosevelt County has a wide selection of schools for your child. Portales and surrounding areas offer programs from Preschool through High School. Eastern New Mexico University, a four-year university, is also located in Portales which allows your child to continue their education while staying close to home.

Preschool:

Portales offers a number of professional daycare options, including Eastern New Mexico University’s extremely popular Child Development Center, staffed by Early Childhood Education professionals holding Masters Degrees or above.

K-12 (Public):

The villages of Dora, Floyd and Elida, located in Roosevelt County, also offer a great K-12 education. Both offer classes with a low number of students to allow for a close class bond and to be able to receive more attention from teachers. 

And, thanks to the New Mexico Lottery, every Roosevelt County High School Graduate earning a grade point average of 2.5 or above receives free college tuition at any state University in New Mexico, or can opt to attend nearby Texas Tech University at reduced tuition rates.

K-12 (Private):

Faith Triumphant is a private Christian school located in Portales, New Mexico. It offers classes from Pre-K to High School along with bible classes every morning.

Colleges and Universities:

Being in a university town has its advantages, and thanks to the New Mexico Lottery, every Portales high school graduate earning and maintaining a grade point average of 2.5 or above can receive free college tuition at any state university in New Mexico, or can opt to attend nearby Texas Tech University in Lubbock at reduced tuition rates. Clovis Community College is 20 minutes north of Portales, offering a variety of two year and technical certification degrees. Mesalands College in Tucumcari (2 hours north) hosts a wind energy technician degree program, and ENMU Roswell (2 hours south) offers two and four year degrees in such areas as aviation management.
