| Portales and Roosevelt County Quality of Life: Recreation
Roosevelt County is rich with outdoor opportunities ranging from hiking, fishing, road biking and mountain biking to horseback riding, on and off-road motorcycle riding, off-road vehicle pursuits, rodeo and livestock pursuits of all types, archaeology, rock hunting, orienteering, and bird watching. The county's large size allows for a variety of uses without crowding. Key facilities in the county include:

- The Recreation Center is a youth entertainment center for children and teens. The Rec Center is open at 3pm during the school year and is open from 8am to 5pm during the summer.
