Roosevelt County, at 1.5 million acres, is the same size as the state of Delaware. The county is well-served by modern highway, rail, and energy infrastructure. Portales sits at the center of millions more acres of productive farm, dairy, range, energy, and conservation reserve land, and yet is located less than 2 hours by car from Lubbock, Texas; Amarillo, Texas; and Roswell, New Mexico.
Most of the land in Roosevelt County is gently sloping or flat, with the exception of several mesas which host wind energy. Water is at less than 300 feet below ground. A quick look from the air (or from Google Earth) will reveal hundreds upon hundreds of irrigated "crop circles", attesting to the vast agricultural wealth of the area. Tens of thousands of acres of land can still be assembled at some of the most competitive prices in the USA. |
